While sitting in a pew in the sanctuary of New Life I was reminded once again why we NEED to get to campus. A young Chinese student walked into the sanctuary and was looking for Pastor Phil. The pastor was with Kyle talking about the service, so I made myself friendly and invited him to sit with me. Turns out Ge, "Paul" was his American name, has been in the country for only 10 days and just met Pastor Phil. He was familiar with the government sanctioned church back in China so he came to the church just off campus to see how he could get involved. I asked him if he was a Christian and he said he hasn't decided that yet but did like the peace he finds in Christian churches. I told him one of the names of Jesus is the Prince of Peace which is probably why he was experiencing those feelings in God's presence. He had to book-it after the service for a meeting he was going to be late to, so we weren't able to ask him his thoughts on the service and how it compared to what he was used to. But if we lived in Athens we could have exchanged numbers and had him over for lunch another day. We could have invited him to a cook out Chi Alpha was having. We could have invited him over for Christmas, explaining why we celebrate the birth of Jesus. Time in the States for International students can be quite limited, so by the time we get to Athens Paul might be back in his country. But there are other 'Paul's who need a friend that will take the time to explain the gospel and help it to make sense. Chi Alpha students make great friends to international students.
- Please pray for Paul and his time here in the States
- Pray for Pastor Phil, that he would have the time it takes to invest in a college student
- And pray for our budget to be raised quickly so we can meet the other 'Paul's out there!
In other news, Abigail is 8 weeks old now! Here are some recent photos...
And as always, thanks for the support. We love you!
This was a great post! Obviously the pictures were my favorite part. Brittany, way to go to make Paul feel welcome. I know that's what you do - you probably did more for him in those few minutes than you will ever know!
