Since we've been back there has been PLENTY to do! Britt's mom came to visit with us and we were able to drive down to Puerto Vallarta for a couple of days to show her a good time. I would like to send out a special thanks to Jerri for being so generous towards us while you were here. Thank you so much! Here are some highlights from the trip:

(Above: Uh-mazing sand sculpture of the "Creation of Man")
(Below: I bought finger puppets! Spider Man, Elmo, Curious G, and Yoda!!!)
However, the day before we drove home from the coastal city, Ducky (our little Honda Civic) had a little accident with her exhaust pipe! About half-way back (where a hole has been creating a race-car sound for a month or so) the exhaust pipe cracked and dropped down about 4 or 5 inches.

(Below: The Solution! :)
In Mexico this is a problem because on almost every street there are topes "toe-pays" (large speed bumps) which we normally bottom-out on quite regularly. So needless to say that we couldn't drive home in such a condition! But after some MacGyver-inspired ingenuity I was able to wire the pipe back up inside the car well enough to get us home. We will be taking Ducky to the "doctor" tomorrow :)
Now for the Importante section of this post.
On the first day of February (last Tuesday) while we were in Puerto Vallarta, there were several instances of attacks throughout the city of Guadalajara. Road-blocks were set at which point cars, trucks and buses were set on fire. Apparently, this increased criminal activity is due to two different drug cartels warring over control of Guadalajara. The U.S. Consulate has sent out a short Warden's Message. (<-Click here to read) We have also heard reports of grenades being thrown into a police station which may or may not be related. Friends, we need your prayers.
We have taken every reasonable precaution to stay out of harms way, but no amount of safety measures can replace your prayers. Please pray not only for our safety, but also for the hearts of the drug cartel members and the city in general. However, make no mistake, ministry will continue!
We are closely monitoring the news and will be subscribing to the U.S. Consulate's e-mail list to make sure we have up-to-date information to make the most responsible decisions. Just in case you have seen anything on the news concerning Guadalajara, we wanted to tell you ourselves that we're fine and that you shouldn't worry.
We Love You All.
Kyle and Brittany
Yikes guys! Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteGreat Post! Not too happy to hear about the danger you two are in - I guess I'll just say EXTRA prayers for you two and your safety! Sorry to hear about Ducky - however Kyle, it was obviously a call for you to use your "MacGyver" skills as you said. Side note Kyle - don't type in yellow, light pink or blue - it doesn't show up. All is well in Ohio - very cold, very busy and very ready for Spring! Love you both - Mo is doing fine, she sends her love.
ReplyDeleteThat sand sculpture is awesome!
ReplyDeletePraying for you guys and everything happening there...Jesus is so much bigger than all the "danger." Love you guys!
Wow. I haven't been following the news about that area. I'll definitely be praying. Guadalajara is usually so safe. Bummer. Glad you had a great trip with the momma. We love you guys!
