Friday at 8am we are pulling out of Ellensburg, Washington where we called home for a little over 10 months and driving back to Ohio, our home. Before that it was Mexico for 10 months. To be home became a noticable desire 5 years ago when I, Brittany, was on the mountain side in Igwavuma, South Africa. I felt so out of place and out of my element. I was one of 15 white people and one of the few who got around in a car verses walking everywhere. I traveled with no family, no friends, no one who knew and appreciated my quirks. It was on that mountain side that would listen to David Crowder Band's "Come and Listen" and be comforted by the Jesus.
Home became increasingly more important 3 months later when I was in Costa Rica and I ached to be with friends and family and some place that felt familiar. I wanted to know that I belonged. That spring, 4 years ago, Kyle got down on one knee and told me that no matter where the Lord directed my steps he wanted to be there with me, he wanted to be my home.
Kyle and I have been watching the Left Behind movies with a few of the students out here which is where I was reminded of the verse in John 14 (above). I don't know about you but when life gets frustrating or hard my heart aches and longs for something better, something pure, something heavenly. I am so grateful that this earth is not the end-all and that Jesus is preparing a place for me in heaven where I will be for all of eternity. I am also learning the value of making close friends which turn into family which is home away from home.
I guess home really is where your heart is, whether it is in Africa or Costa Rica or in a spouse or in the west coast or with friends but at the end of the day and with increasing measure our hearts should be bending toward heaven and longing for Jesus' return to take us, well, home :)
We want to say a special thank you to our financial supporters who have committed their support through August. We hope to communicate with you soon about what comes next and hope you will continue to partner with us to share the Gospel!
That is so very true! :)
